Grand Haven is best known for their world class beach and boardwalk. The iconic lighthouse at the end of the pier marks the joining of the Grand River into Lake Michigan and makes for great scenery for many summer memories. Grand Haven holds a spectacular annual festival for the Coast Guard which is the home of the Coast Guard’s National Memorial Service that honors fallen members of the service. The Coast Guard Festival is one of the largest festivals in Western Michigan, attracting around 300,000 people each year. The fireworks show on the first Saturday is August has a well-earned reputation as one of the best in the nation. The Coast Guard Festival is a “can’t miss” event – you’ll never feel more proud of being associated with the Coast Guard. Even though Grand Haven shines in the summer, there is so much to do year round. Downtown offers great shopping and dining and superb housing. There are festivals, car shows, art shows, a farmers market and the world’s largest musical water fountain.
The Grand Haven Area Public Schools is a great place to educate your children. Ranked 22nd in the state by US News, the high school has approximately 1800 students which makes it one of the largest schools in the area. This means that there are many opportunities and special programs that you won’t find in smaller districts. Not least among these opportunities is athletics. Grand Haven has high quality facilities and has many students involved between 7th and 12th grade. This includes opportunities such as an equestrian team and water polo. Whatever your child’s talent they are sure to find a place in Grand Haven.
